Lead, Galvanized Iron or Unknown Service Line Material

New York State has implemented a new requirement!

Letters have been mailed to all customers on record whose drinking water service line material (according to our records) is made of lead, galvanized iron or an unknown material.  We recommend any customer who falls into one of these three categories researches the problems that can arise from these materials and look into updating the service line to copper or plastic.

Please click here for an interactive map that will help identify the service line material at your location.

If your service line material is unknown, please click here to watch a short YouTube video to find out how to identify the material.

Please click here for information on having your water tested.  Once you are on the site -

underneath the Advanced Search Option

  - category = Potable water

  - Analyte = Lead, Total

  - Click on "View Results"

  - Enter NY in the search field and all testing facilities in New York will come up

Please click here for more information from the New York State Department of Health on lead in drinking water.

If you have any questions, need assistance or would like a list of some contractors in the area that are capable of replacing a service line, please contact Trent Otis at totis@elmirawaterboard.org or 607-526-5143.
