Why is EWB upgrading the meters?

Update Outdated Equipment

At Elmira Water Board, we strive to make sure our equipment is operating efficiently.  The older the meter becomes, the more likely it is to produce an inaccurate read or no read at all. Alot of the meters in our system are over 20 years old and are in need of replacement.

Additional Benefits With The New Meters

The new meters we are installing are the Sensus iPERL.  In addition to providing accurate readings, these meters can also provide diagnostic and alarm information, which could potentially help us assist a customer in leak detection and other issues.  These meters are also compatible with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems, allowing for remote data collection/readings.

How do I know I know if my meter needs to be upgraded?

Meter installations are being carried out in phases, and customers will be notified when their section is scheduled. The initial notification will be included with your regular billing statement to inform you that we’ll be working in your area. The second and third notices will be sent as separate letters. Please be on the lookout for these communications so you can contact our office to schedule your appointment. You may call Customer Service and we may be able to provide you with an estimated timeframe for when we’ll be in your area!
